The 23rd issue of Asahi Shimbun’s weekly news magazine, AERA, will be featuring one very unique cover boy, and he seems to be three times faster than most magazine cover boys.
AERA’s newest cover boy is none other than Char Aznable, or Casval Rem Deikum, or Edward Mass, or Quattro Bajeena, or “The Red Comet”. The magazine cover features Char in his One Year War gear with his iconic red uniform and mask. The cover is illustrated by veteran artist, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the original character designer for Mobile Suit Gundam and the one who is also responsible for the character designs for other Gundam series like Zeta, F-91, and UC (the original light novels).
The magazine will be having a feature on the Gundam franchise and will also be taking a look at “the sad history of Gundam”. This is all to promote the upcoming Gundam movie, Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin I: Blue-eyed Casval, which will premiere not only in Japan, but also Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, on 28 February 2015. The first Gundam the Origin movie will be taking a look at the origin story of the Deikum siblings, Char, then known as Casval, and his sister, Sayla Mass, then known as Artesia.
