So you missed the first episode of Noragami at the AFA13… … Well it’s finally out on Japanese TV now if you can watch it =D. If not, here’s a little something.

Yato-gami, or Yato, is your neighbourhood friendly god. Contactable by cellphone, all prayers answered, offerings in 5 yen accepted. But with no shrine, and barely any believers, and his coffers only filling half a wine bottle, he’s so down-and-out, even his shinki (sacred weapon) Kotone quits on him (complaining about his sweaty palms).

Yato-gami
Refusing to be beaten, he sets out to help find a lost kitty. Hiyori, a high school student obsessed with mixed martial arts, saves him from an oncoming truck (not that he actually needed it).
Instead, she gets hit, and well, her soul develops a tendency to detach from her body. Putting her knowledge of wrestling moves to good use, she saves Yato yet again, this time from malicious ayakashi (spirits). At the end of the 1st episode, she tasks Yato with solving her problem, of course, after handing him the token 5 yen offering.
Side effect of an almost-fatal accident: Soul detachment
Fast-paced and witty, there’s never a dull moment despite having only 2 characters carrying the first 2 episodes. Both Yato and Hiyori are well-fleshed out characters, slaying every kami and schoolgirl stereotype. Yato’s naivete although sometimes bordering on unbelievable, is endearing, and keeps you rooting for this underdog.
But Yato needs a weapon. In the midst of escaping yet another hostile ayakashi, Yato spots a pure, uncorrupted ghost. Perfect for sculpting into a shinki! Without delay, he claims this spirit, binding him and names him Yukine.

Featuring a top-notch cast led by Hiroshi Kamiya (Yato), who brilliantly returns to setting the pace with rapid fire banter like in Zetsubou Sensei and the Monogatari series. Maaya Uchida (Hiyori) tackles battle cries and ultimate move announcements while never losing schoolgirl cute. Yuki Kaji (Yukine) finally returns to his niche, the shouta you just cannot resist pinching and fawning over. Other upcoming cast members include: Aki Toyosaki, Daisuke Ono, Miyuki Sawashiro, Jun Fukuyama, Rie Kugumiya, etc.
