Before we jump into the review, who is Shiki Ryougi?
The titular protagonist of Kara no Kyoukai (KnK), Ryougi is a female to be feared. Ryougi possesses the 直死の魔眼 (chokushi no magan), otherwise officially translated as the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. Without going too much into detail, these eyes allow Ryougi to “see” Death in the form of either lines or singular points, but Ryougi can only see them as lines. She can then sever these lines to “kill” something or someone – yes, objects can be killed as well.
Ryougi Shiki has also appeared in Melty Blood, a fighting game developed by TYPE-MOON and French-Bread.
Back to the figurines!
The guys over at Kotobukiya and Good Smile Company (GSC) have kindly made two fine figurines of Ryougi. The one from Kotobukiya is the “夢のような、日々の名残” (Yume no Youna, Hibi no Nagori) version, while the one from GSC is the “伽藍の洞” (Garannodou) version.
The two figurines are really well made, both overflowing with the confidence that Ryougi shows at all time, as well as emphasising her femininity at the same time. From the subtle floral pattern imprinted on her kimono, to the beautifully drawn floral details on her obi, you can tell that they spared no effort to the detail on these two figurines.
Above is a comparison of the two figurines’ obi as well as the main floral pattern on the front of Shiki’s kimono. Isn’t the level of detail just stunning?
