Ghost in the Shell fans rejoice because Motoko Kusanagi and the rest of Section 9 are coming back for another round this April 2015 for two new episodes which will pick up where the original four Arise episodes left off.
This new project, called Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture, will recompile all four existing episodes and add two completely new ones in order to tie in with the new movie, which will hit Japanese theaters this Summer 2015.
The recompiled four episodes and the two new episodes will be aired in Japan via Tokyo MX starting 5 April 2015. Series writer Tow Ubukata commented that Masamune Shirow’s original manga is “begging to be adapted on screen”, and that this new showing will answer the question of why Section 9 was brought together. He then said that he hopes he can touch new people and will be enjoyedthe manga’s original fans, as well as the original movie and the Stand Alone Complex anime.
The new episodes will have section 9 facing off with a pyromaniac known as “The Firestarter”. Motoko believes that this new villain is infected with a virus and must be stopped at all costs.
Ubutaka also talked about the upcoming movie and said that it will deal more with Motoko as a person and will look into her past. Here is the teaser trailer for the movie
