Orenchi no Furo Jijou, the latest adorably hilarious series on a merman living in a bathtub, will be having a collaborative event with Nara Kenko Land, an onsen-wellness-theme park located in Nara.
Orenchi no Furo Jijou is a 4-koma (4-panel) manga series by Itokichi, serialized in Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Gene starting 2011. Revolving around normal high school boy Tatsumi and his not-so-normal life after he picked up a stray ikemen merman Wakasa, who started living in his bathtub. “Orenchi no Furo Jijou“, which literally translates to “the circumstances of my home’s bathtub”, is a comedic, slice-of-life take on the adorable antics of Wakasa and his aquatic friends, and how Tatsumi deals with all of them. The anime adaptation of this comedic series aired just one season ago, and showcased a weekly 5-minutes worth of laughs and joy over 13 episodes.
While this event “Nara Kenko Land no Furo Jijou” is definitely not the first of many tie-ups with a popular anime series, it is definitely a refreshing one in the myriad of cafe and karaoke box tie-ups today. Lasting 2 weeks from 4th to 19th Apr 2015, the event promises a range of activities including seiyuu talkshows, autograph sessions with the author, an original anime-inspired menu, goods, illustrations and special decor.
The highlight? Definitely the “Wakasa Merlion” that they promised will be present in the large onsen bath in Nara Kenko Land. We kid you not, because they used that exact phrase “Wakasa’s Merlion bath” (若狭のライオン風呂). True enough, our darling Merlion has one thing in common with Wakasa: they are both half-fish! Still, can’t say we aren’t glad that our Merlion is inspiring onsen designs now. Go go Merlion!
Also, you can expect a bath filled with rubber ducks (inspired by Ahiru-chan). Rubber duckies are cute, just as long as they don’t shoot their mouths off like Ahiru-chan actually does.
On top of the wide range of bath facilities, fun activities, rest and wellness packages that Nara Kenko Land provides, the event will feature an original anime-inspired menu. Live up the bathtub life with Wakasa’s ofuro curry, served up in a mini traditional Japanese wooden bathtub-shaped bowl. Or you could go for the merman’s favourite cheese hamburg, which looks almost as good as how Wakasa claims it to be in-anime. If you aren’t particularly peckish, opt for a serving of Takasu’s leg, freshly served up in takoyaki (yes you guessed it, Takasu is an octopus). Top off your meal with Tapioca Mikuni furo-juice, full of floating tapioca “jellyfish”.
On every Sunday over the event period, fans can also catch the author Itokichi and the cast at autograph or talkshow sessions.
4/5: Talkshow featuring Yuuichiro Umehara (Wakasa)
4/12: Autograph session with Itokichi-sensei
4/19: Talkshow featuring Yoshihisa Kawahara (Ahiru-chan)
The event will also feature original goods featuring new illustrations. Also, catch the illustration exhibits, life-size panels, and take a couple shot with your favourite characters in a special photo booth.
