Pictures of the first part of Mamoru Oshii‘s The Next Generation -Patlabor- multi-part film series were released on the website on 20 January 2014. There were pictures of the AV-98 Ingram‘s cockpit, among other things.

The multi-part film project will have a prequel “episode 0″ (about ten minutes in length), followed by seven, approximately 48 minute long parts:

A feature film is also set to air in Spring 2015, during the Japanese Golden Week Holiday.
The film project will not be a remake of any of the earlier anime series. Instead, it is a completely new story, set in 2013 Tokyo. It represents a “Third Generation” of Patlabor, with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police disbanding Section 2 Division 1 and their robots, leaving only Section 2 Division 2 (as can be seen in some of their uniforms in the photos).
The seven-part series will have a more “slapstick” feel while the film will be more serious, according to Oshii. Oishii will be writing the scripts in collaboration with Kei Yamamura while Kenji Kawai will return to the franchise to compose the music for both the series and the feature film.
Cast members include:
- Erina Mano (Former Hello! Project singer) as pilot Akira Izumino
- Seiji Fukushi as Yūma Shiobara
- Rina Oota as Ekaterina Krachevna Kankaeva (“Kasha”) from Russia
- Shigeru Chiba reprises his anime role as maintenance crew chief Shigeo Shiba
- Toshio Kakei as Captain Keiji Gotōda, successor to the anime’s Captain Kiichi Gotō.
- Yoshinori Horimoto as Team 2 pilot Harao Ōta
- Shigekazu Tajiri as Team 1 carrier driver Hiromichi Yamazaki
- Kohei Shiotsuka as Team 2 carrier driver Shinji Osakeya
- Yoshikazu Fujiki as Buchiyama, the maintenance crew’s second-in-charge
