And he’s done it again! Tony Swatton has made another life-like USABLE prop weapon! And this time, he’s made Sephiroth’s Masamune to accompany Cloud’s Buster Sword, an earlier build.
Workshop and foundry work are never simple, and this video shows it again. Here, he heat treats and grinds the metal components that will eventually become the masterpiece. His attention to detail for that prop would make prop makers envious, and nerds will surely get a case of “nerdgasms” (reference to the video).
While making a real katana isn’t a walk in the park (forge the metal ingot, fold and beat it into a blade, sharpen and polish, all three steps takes months, and are done by masters of forging, smithing and polishing respectively), this prop still requires the effort and skills for production.
For those who don’t know, Tony is a master blacksmith and armorer who has worked on numerous feature films’ props (Pirates of the Caribbean, Thor, Hunger Games). He has his own shop, Sword and the Stone, where you may find creations of his for either display or sale.
SourceFed Nerd has visited his shop too. You can watch the “factory tour” here: Forging Daggers with MAN AT ARMS
