AFACHAN got a chance to take an early look at the upcoming release of the Sailor Moon Figuart Zero by Bandai’s Tamashii Nation label. And boy, did we get a pleasant surprise from the various minor changes on the sculpting of the product.
The end product? Something that is a lot more similar to the classic anime as compared with the earlier distributed product pictures.
The basics
Sailor Moon Figuart Zero, by Bandai’s Tamashii Nation label is set to be released in the March of 2014, with a recommended retail price of SGD$139.95 in Singapore.
Standing at 19 centimetres in height, the product requires little space for display.
At first glance, Usagi appeared similar to the product photo previously sent to us for a feature, but yet on closer inspection, we soon discovered many more details worth pre-photo shoot glances. It seemed more attractive somehow, and we soon learnt the differences.
Subtle lines
One of the most notable changes would be around the bust area, missing the previously very distinct bust line extending all the way around. You could say that it’s more tapered now compare to before. This still allows for that modest, busty look based on the original designs.
The very distracting folding line along the waist, commonly mistaken as abs(?!), has more or less been straightened out, giving us a streamlined body and an uninterrupted curvy waist.
The new subtle changes made the modelled Usagi more feminine; less like a body builder and more of a carefree student.
Just like in the anime!
The shiny stuff~
The borrowed sample also appeared more natural and pleasing to our eyes, making it a delight for our cameras.
This is partly due to the detailed components such as the semi-transparent tip of the hair, the moon stick on the hand of the Usagi, and the gem like bun on the head and the various glossy finishings on the boots, uniform and the ribbons.

The BONUS – Proplica Sailor Moon MoonStick
In our package, we also received a prototype version the Sailor Moon moonstick. Note that this is just a prototype model to give us a feel of how the actual product would look like. It is not a working set.
The Basics,
The stick measures about 26 centimetres in length, and comes with a stand, LED lightings and is capable of playing back various recorded lines from the anime. While ours did not have any of the fancy lights and sounds as it was a prototype model, it was still a lot of fun to pose with in the office.
How was it?
The moon stick is made entirely of hard plastic so you should have no worries about knocking it or dropping it on the floor (not like we have dropped it) when trying to perform the various transformation routines.
(Of course, we would like to warn you that usage of force on the product may lead to damage to the product and/or injuries to you or a third party.)

The shell by itself bares no more weight than an average smart phone, but we are expecting it to weigh in a bit more, when taking into consideration additional components such as the batteries and various electronics. This, we feel will give the moonstick a more premium feel.
Since the sample we got was an prototype we were unable to make much out of it except to say that the build of the moonstick is really good, thanks to the hard plastic construction. The chrome on the crescent and the ribbons are also very constant and of great quality, definitely something that matches the reputation of the Sailor moon cosplayer.
Though it would be awesome if they can find a way to cover-up or remove the line in splitting the crescent moon like a banana. If I were to get this, I’ll most likely fill it in with putty, and chrome it again to match the production colour.
A closer look at the details. The actual product will have LEDs and sound activated by the star shaped button.
