Based on your responses in the most recent Feedback Survey, we have compiled the TOP Ten Anime of 2013. This list will not have the recent anime that haven’t concluded atleast 1 season at the start of the December 2013, thus you will not see popular titles like Log Horizon or Kill La Kill in this list.
What you will see are titles that has started in 2012 but ended in 2013. While some of the anime are more than expected, there are a few that you would be disagree with, afterall the result is based on a survey, so this is really a popularity contest rather than how good the anime really are.
Somehow I bet, if the new Sailormoon anime is released in the 2013, it will surely be in the list… Too bad its not…
TOP TEN ANIME of 2013
Without further ado, here are the 10, in no particular order,
And now we try our best to explain the results…
The popular title fronted by Tokiwadai’s Mikoto Misaka the Railgun, more affectionately known as biribiri or to a certain Kuroko, Sempai<3. The Railgun series showcased the fun side of Academy City, mixed in with some serious story telling, something more obvious in the second season.
“A CERTAIN SCIENTIFIC RAILGUN S” also re-introduce the imoutos, explaining how Mikoto got her personal army of little sisters.
All in all the series is a good one for fans and first timers alike.
Congratulations!
Fun fact: Biri Biri is a nickname given to Misaka by Touma, the main character of the A Certain Magical Index series.
The 2nd part of the AKB48′s attempt to break into the anime market, AKB0048 sing, dance and fight their way into our TOP TEN anime of 2013 .
Created by Satelight, best known for making Macross Frontier, together with voice talents from the best in the industry, like Yui Horie, Yuki Tamura and Kana Ueda; And the girls chosen from within the popular 48 group spearheaded by Mayu Watanabe and then newbie Karen Iwata.
It’s easy to see how it got into our top 10. If you haven’t checked out the anime, give it a try, it’s actually quite good.
The anime that everyone was talking about in part due to it’s awfully catchy opening song, inciting plot and later the good looks of Squad Leader Levi.
It helps of course to have Japanese school girls and boys, take pictures and videos of them re-enacting the scenes from the anime. With that, Attack On Titan became the single most talked about anime in 2013 and it reflected well in our survey.
Congrats!
Fun Fact: There is only 1 full sized Titan head made in the world, and it’s exhibited within the halls of AFA2013.
The popularity of this show is probably a surprise to some, but with its character driven focus when it comes to the plot, it’s not hard to choose and stick to your favourite character out of the ones introduced in this first season of the anime.
The second season will find its way onto TV screens soon in 2014.
Fun Fact: The producer of AFACHAN likes Yoshinon…
A well-written murder mystery story will always engage people, wanting to find out what happens next. Whether you followed it’s original weekly broadcast run or viewed in a marathon, it is hard to deny wanting to solve the cases yourself and the satisfaction that comes if you do get it correct. Murder mysteries will always appeal with it’s ability to keep people wanting more.
Fun fact: AFA13 guests Ying Tze and Onnies both cosplayed as Junko Enoshima during AFA13
Kyoto Animation have once again outdone themselves, this time by creating an anime enjoyed by both genders. The friendship and camaraderie for the guys and … … … the “art” for the ladies…
Regardless, FREE! made it into our top ten.
Fun Fact: There is an internet fan made parody of this series titled, PAID! which has the characters re-visualised as females. Something not very difficult with the feminine names given to each of the characters in the anime.
Gin Tama the anime series may have ended in early 2013, but a very entertaining “FINAL” movie reignited it’s popularity, especially with the movie shown both at cinemas and in AFA13′s Main stage.
It’s no wonder the already highly popular Gin Tama can get into our top ten anime of 2013.

The premise through which μ’s is born may be a bit far-fetched to some, but don’t let that get in the way of your enjoyment of the catchy music as well as the heart-warming team bonding among all 9 girls.
Watch out for the second season coming your way in 2014!
Fun fact: The smartphone game Love Live! School Idol Festival is one of the games featured in Google’s ads for it’s Play Store in Japan.
How awesome would it be to own one of the Dominators? Depending on how you see it, Psycho-Pass is set in a futuristic utopia/dystopia where even your mental state of mind can be quantified.
The well developed characters truly add colour to the overarching plot, where you can’t resist finding out what happens next.
Fun fact: For those of you still confused over EGOIST’s performance at AFA13, the vocalist Chelly, was singing live on stage. Some of you may have spotted her silhouette bringing to life Inori’s movement on screen. Truly an unique way of performing.
Shameless advertising: You can now buy some Psycho Pass goods from the AFASHOP~
One cannot avoid talking about the collaboration between TM Revolution and Nana Mizuki for both opening theme songs for this show. The popularity of the songs, as well as Attack on Titan’s “Guren no Yumiya” ensured their representation at the 64th Kouhaku Uta Gassen singing competition.
As for the anime itself, a strong cast that appeals to viewers of both genders does help in mitigating the show’s somewhat slow pacing in it’s story development, which kicked into high gear towards the end of its second season.
Fun fact: As of writing, AFA13 was the only place to see TM Revolution and Nana Mizuki perform together outside of Japan ‘live’.
